I'm Not Dead.

sorry for complete lack of posts - YGO has been practically on the back burner for me lately. Teaching my brother how to play currently - but other then that, i've been dealing with personal issues that have made it hard for me to find time for YGO. I will update everyone within the next few weeks. I will have a detailed sneak peak report after the sneak.

Locals Report 12/12/11

So I went to locals this weekend with a (kinda) rogue deck. I decided to play Samurais this week because A) I think they're still viable ( at least on a locals level ) and B) I would be the only person running them that knows HOW TO run them. Six Sams is my go to deck. It was my first ACTUAL deck I played competitively - I don't think Geminis count Q_Q.

Round 1 -  Nathaniel - Dark World (TGU-less, of course)

Game 1: I Win the Dice roll.  I first turn overextend, because I KNEW I had him from the getgo. She in, Roach, Judgment, come @ me bro.
Game 2: He goes first, sets a Snoww -_-. Apparently he had no discard outlets. I win next turn.

OO

Round 2 - Dan - Chaos BW

Game 1 - I lose the dice roll. He goes first, Sets a monster. I think he's bluffing Ryko, so I swarm into Shi en, GM, 2 Kizans. I attack into a Ryko... Mills a Gardna and another dark. negates my onslaught with said Gardna. Next turn summons a Grepher. With DAD in hand. FML.

Game 2 - I open up with Shi en, and Naturia Beast. He cant recover because he opened up with 4 spells lol.

Game 3 - I forget how, But he opened up stupidly and I lost. Might have had something to do with my hand being GW, 2 United, D Fissure, Reborn, and Torrential. 3 More turns till I would get a monster.

XOX

Round 3 - Jonah - Dark Heroes.

Game 1 - I win the dice roll! I entirely forget most of this match, but I remember him running into a Gorz, and me Somehow winning with like.. 400 LP left. This game Dragged on.

Game 2 - He went first, got a bunch of pluses, made a big Shining, I couldnt get over it in time.

Game 3 - D Fissure put in alot of work here, and when he finally got rid of it, I draw another. Kept removing his monsters. My sided Spirit Reaper made him discard quite a bit, making him drop 1 Miracle Fusion, and His Reborn. After I had beaten him, he showed me his hand. His other 2 Miracle Fusions were there. GG.

OXO

Round 4 - Phillip - Empty Jar ( He's on my team anyways, winner of this made top 4, he gave me the win, even though we played it out. He didnt think he could do top 4 with Jar.)

Game 1 - I win the dice roll! - First Turn Naturia Beast. GG.
Game 2 - He actually gets his FTK off.
Game 3 - First turn Beast. GG. Lol.

OXO

So I make top 4.  with a 3-1 no less.Turns out I'm playing Dan AGAIN!. fuck this time to make him hurt.

Game 1 - Forget how, But I won.
Game 2 - This game was by far the most hilarious thing I have ever seen. He goes first, sets a f/d to each row. My turn. I Swarm the shit out of him without even using my normal summon. Trish, Shi en, etc. He ends up Veilering my trish.. so i was like.. okay. So I Normal Kageki, drop a Hand with him, overlay into Leviair, Crow his Veiler. Steal Veiler, go into Brionac with GM, bounce his 2 cards, swing for game. Turns out his F/d Monster was Necro Gardna. OTK.

OO

I don't end up playing the last game against Scott so we split. Best Pull was.. D Boyz. LMAO. I think he immediately sold it for 2$? hahahaha.

So YCS Brighton is this weekend. My thoughts are similar to LFN's. Nothing new has changed recently, and I expect it to be very much like last YCS. I do expect plants to win this one, or possibly DinoRabbit. Depending on the Pilot. GL to all, and I hope to cover it a bit after its done with.

Quick Update and Thoughts.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, school/work/ League of Legends has been taking up all my time over the past 2 weeks or so. Just thought I would shoot some quick updates to make this a quick post.

  • Inzecters are stupid, and I think they will break this game worse then tour guide. Seriously hoping Dragonfly/Hornet is ULT/SCR.
  •  Tour Bus of the Underworld. Seriously?
  •  I like the Ra Yellow pack they announced recently. Easier access to common TKRO, Foil CBs/Original Six Sam (FUCKYEAHYACHI!)
  •   Having Problems getting over that Zenmaines? Cydra + Chimeratech. Umad?
  •    Sorry for the lack of local report last week, didn't think it was worth posting since it was lackluster to begin with. 12 people, Shitty pulls. Sure, 2 members of my team made top 4, but we both got wrecked by Scott's team. I tried plants again, but I dont like it when Smog is being played so often in DW. Thinking I wanna rogue out and play SixSams on Monday.
  •  Wish I had Tour Guides :( Wanna netdeck LFN's Ab0. rofl. sorry bro, but it looks classy, and I would totally play it. Suits my style completely.
  •  The new Masked heroes look pretty cool, Hope they hit TCG sooner rather then Later.

    Locals Report : 11/28/11

So I had decided that I wanted to play a different deck this week, as I have been playing agents since the structure deck was released. Unfortunately, due to me missing a few cards, I had to stick with agents again this week, however, I got everything ready to go for next week.

Also, GZ finally got their Turbo Packs in, so prize support went from AWESOME to sorta lame. Normally we do: 5$ per entry, which all goes back into prizes. Normally 1 entry = 1 of newest packs, top 2 get all the loot with random packs being given to anybody who didn't make top 4. I like this system, as it rewards the players who do well, and provides a means for new/inexperienced players to grow. Fortunately, My team is in the category of more experienced, and since there is 4 of us, our odds of getting goodies is better then anyone else.

HOWEVER - this week, we are forced by the store people to play for turbo packs. and they charged us 5$ per pack, so that means... exact same formula as before, except for lamer prizes, ZERO entry packs, and less chance of packing goodies. Scott (guy who runs our tourneys, best player at our locals) manages to convince them to let us play for half/half. So half turbo packs, half PHSW. So its not too bad, but I would have preferred the regular way of doing it. It's still better then most places, as ALL of the entry fees go back to the player base. I have heard of some places that take well over 40% of the fees.

Round 1 - Jonathan - Scrub Watts Stall? (I think. Not even sure what he was trying to accomplish.)

Game 1 - I lose the dice roll. He goes first, sets one monster, and activates Swords of Revealing Light.

I summon Earth, get Venus, set 2 BR, end. He passes his next turn. I draw mst for his swords, venus into 2 shine balls make trish, go into hyperion, GG?

Game 2 - Summons some watt in attack, no back row. I get out a first turn Hyperion, run into it, he uses Honest, which I Herald for the lulz, giving me 2 bullets for next turn. He cant recover, and I wreck face next turn.

    00

    Round 2 -Marc (Scraps)

Idk why he even showed up. He's actually a decent duelist but He has been absent from YGO since before GENF, and only came back for one night to hang out with his buddies. He did nothing but badmouth the game. Time to serve this ass.

Game 1 - I win the dice Roll. Maxx "C" gives me a bunch of plusses when he does a Summoner Monk play, going into beast, then SCD, then when I mirror force his SCD, I get another +1 cause of his eff. Woo. This allows me to easily Hyperion the rest of the game.

Game 2 - Almost the same thing happened, except I opened up with no offense. My opening hand was 2 crows, herald, shineball, Earth and Maxx C. He had a foolish and Chimera. I shut out all of his plays with my hand-traps. GG.

    00

    Round 3 - Travis ( Blackwings)

This matchup scares me, as Travis is really good.

Game 1 - I lose the dice Roll. I open up terribly and lose almost immediately. Bora says fuck off to setting shineballs for defence.

Game 2- I somehow pull a win out of my ass by lucksacking topdeck mind control, taking his Kycoo and attacking directly with my own Kycoo. Overlay for Utopia. Next turn he draws Blizzard. No BWS in grave cause of Kycoo. Lol.

Game 3 - Drew terribly and tried to stall a bit till I drew a Hyperion, but I lost out too early. DAD is too good. Next draw after I conceded : Hyperion. Go figure.

    X0X

Game 4 - Alex ( Agents, My teammate, and we both only had losses to Travis, so winner of this makes top 4. No complaints really. )

Game 1 -  I lose the dice roll. I Honest his Kristya which he got out with Valhalla with my Earth, He Heralds my Honest, I Herald his Herald, Lulz ensue.Set bottomless, He msts. Valhalla brings Kristya back out, and I cant recover.

Game 2 - I try to make a Decisive Armor play, but he shuts down my Venus with Herald. He topdecks Hyperion, and he MSTs my only out to it (D Pris)

    XX

So I go 2-2 which is pretty lackluster for me.Oh well, next week, I have my surprise deck ready to woop shit, take names, etc.  for next week.

Oh, and Alex beat Scott in the top 2 by topdecking Hyperion, so we got 7 PHSW, and 5 Turbo Pack 6s. We pack... garbage. Honestly, the best thing packed was a rare Stardust, and it wasnt even by Alex.

We got a Wind-up Kitty, which Phil wants for his Wind-ups, but other then that, garbage.

I didn't expect much anyways. I never do in YGO.

    Upcoming Archtypes Part 2

Sorry for the lack of posts folks, school has been keeping me busy - not to mention LoL, MW3, Arkham City, and WWE 12 have been taking up all my spare time. It like Mondays are my only day for YGO. Ah well.

I didn't comment much on YCS Kansas, cause quite frankly, it was never of any interest to me. Chaos winning surprised me, but any deck with tour guides in it autowins. I'm really not a fan of Konami catering to the players who are willing tos spend 1000$+ on decks.

Seeing Genex Neutron played in Karakuri was pretty cool, showing that you could theoretically tech in BLS into the deck if you so choose to ( light: 2 Neutrons, 2 CyDras, veiler perhaps, dark: Genex Birdman, gorz, TGU engine). Granted that the pilot of that deck learned to play. I'm sure he wasn't aware he made the error, I just think that A) the players, B) the officials, and C) the damn reporter should have seen it. Also, DARKHOLEWTF!?!?!11.

    W/E, I digress.

Anyways, this is the 2nd part of my series on upcoming archetypes.

    Lavals

This archetype seems very fun, and from all the play testing, seems consistent. It focuses heavily on RFP and milling. This deck seems like it can have lots of different variants -  however the most talked about seem to be Pure Lavals, Flamvell Lavals and Lavalsworn. The fact that these guys are abuse-able with Rekindling (which IMO, is THE best revival card available), makes these guys a force to be reckoned with. The seem like they wouldn't be able to handle this format however. so far I wouldn't recommend them for the competitive scene, however, I'm in the process of trying to make them viable.

    Gishki

The new ritual archtype, Gishki can be fairly versatile, being able to search through its Deck quickly for the cards needed for their combos and whatnot. I haven't gotten alot of hands on with them, but from what I have, they seem quite decent. My sole complaint so far is that TKRO eats this deck up. Another thing that was brought to my attention is the fact that they rely solely on themselves - you wont see anything splashed into them, or them splashed into anything else. Seems kinda meh.

    (In)verz
I know I was going to mention Steelswarm, however, they kinda suck. at least until these guys are legal for play. In case your unaware, Steelswarm is a sub-archetype of this one. Thus, all Steelswarm monsters are supported by Verz support cards. Expect a corny name-change when they finally hit TCG. Essentially, the Steelswarm virus corrupted all of the DT/HA  monsters. This apparently makes all the mosnters have 50+ ATK and 50+ DEF, and have similar effects. Again, like Gishki, excluding Steelswarm Roach, these guys are specific support for each other - not much splashing. However, from everything released so far, these guys will have tonnes of different approaches - VerzTributes, VerzXYZ, etc. Many different playstyles indeed.

    Ninjas

Ahhh ninjas. The decade old archetype that desperately needed a touchup on. The new support that is coming out for these guys is ridiculous. I am really liking the new support for these guys. Im thinking this is what I'll attempt to play come Feb when ORCS is legal. HANZO is too good. Although they dont generate as much advantage as Inzecters, these guys are pretty badass. Ninjitsu Art of transformation makes this deck super fun alone. The variety this deck will have is ridiculous. I am probably most excited for these guys for next pack.

Anywho, I hope you enjoyed this series, just made it to name a few possibilites for the formats to come. Inzecters are most likely to succeed in being top tier. Ask DN. Le Sigh.

This Monday, I am done procrastinating. I am going to do a locals report, regardless of how shitty I do.  I have been holding it off far to long.

    Upcoming Archtypes Part 1

So with the 5Ds era past us, and the Zexal one incoming, I thought I'd take a minute to discuss whats upcoming in the Archetype department, and also in Support for past archetypes. We are already 2 booster packs in, and a 3rd has most of its OCG setlist revealed.

In my honest opinion, this looks like one of the best eras yet. The release of XYZ monsters has drastically changed the way the game is played, much like when sycnhros were first introduced.

So looking at the first 3 sets of this generation, as well as the Hidden Arsenal archetypes , the next format is really shaping up.

    Evols
I went over this before, but...
My personal favorite upcomer as of right now, the majority of this archetype (so far) is tournament legal on Tuesday. This archetype revolves around "Evolving" from a reptile, to a dinosaur, and finally, a big ass dragon. They show swarm, stun, and beatstick capabilities. I feel this deck needs a tuner to be completely competitive, however, it is extremely fun, escpecially for the local scene.

    Inzecters

Holy balls, these guys are ridiculous. The looping capability this deck has is incredible. Played against this on DN a few times, and got slaughtered by the advantage this thing pulls out. When I first read these guys, I was like "Dragunity ripoff, will be about as played.. meh". Changed my mind. They can swarm super easy, and are all targets for DAD. I think of all the upcoming archetypes, this one shows the most potential to be top-tier (or at least tier 2) with the exception of the next archetype. Seriously, if you haven't yet, play around with these fuckers for a bit. My only complaint is that Veiler and SIM shut this deck completely down if timed properly.

     Wind-ups

Okay, so these guys are probably going to be the ones that shine the most. For some reason, they remind me of Blackwings, which I dont understand, cause they are nothing alike aside from the swarming. Maybe its the searcher, maybe its the ridiculous amount of support, IDK. These guys have a nifty little loop with one of their XYZ boss's (Zenmaighty?) and Wind-up Rat to swarm like a boss. I personally see this as an archetype that will constantly have support, so its hard to say where this will take us.

    Photons

To be honest, I dont see this archetype as a whole seeing much play. The idea behind them seems good (2k light beaters?) however, it seems very inconsistant. The only reason I figured I would mention them is 1) They are the main Zexal Characters archetype, and 2) Their support they give other archetypes is pretty badass. I got pwned by Photon Booster and Photon Lead last week at locals, and I see much more decent support coming out in the future. Maybe ORCS will have some decent s/t support for other lights.
Also, GEPD in dragons. When the new structure deck comes out, I think he'll see more play, seeing as hes a light 3k beater who can easily be SSed by REDMD. With a situational effect that *COULD* come in handy.
This will conclude part 1 of this series. Next time, I'm hoping ill get  to touch up on Ninjas (YAY), Lavals, Steelswarm, and Gishki.

Also, I know I said I was going to do locals reports - Im still on it. I have shitty memory, and I want them to be detailed, so I need to find a means to record the duels, so I can actually report on them. And writing while doing it is time-consuming, and not to mention focus-consuming. Ill test something tonight at locals.

Back From Vacation - What did I Miss?

So, after 2 full weeks of going YGO-less, I gotta say I'm glad to be back. I didn't miss a whole hell of a lot, but the big news from what I can tell is Billy Brake winning his 2nd back-to-back YCS (Congrats on that).

Also in teh newz - DW did a whole fuckload if nothing at that very YCS. I still say Dark Smog will make this deck a lot  more consistent - I honestly don't want Dark Worlds to become like Dragunity - Overhyped as shit.

2 weeks, and that's all I see. Slow 2 weeks apparently.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the sneak peak for tomorrow, as my work sucks, and scheduled me during it. This being said, 2 of my team members will be appearing at what is bound to be a lackluster sneak, considering my locals thought it would be a good idea to have their sneak at the same time as the bigger one in Fredericton, and everyone from my locals will mostly be going to that one. I guess I'll just have to wait till the set actually comes out on the 15th, or trade to get my Evol stuff with someone who will be attending.

ah well. I'm hoping if I can start doing Tourny reports starting monday, if I have the materials ready. We'll see.

Now that I am back, and my vacation is over, its time to get back to whats important - College, Work, Gaming, and YGO. Life is grand.

Evols; Side Deck Options; Going Away.

So, after quite a few hours of studying whats been announced, as well as the OCG's version of Photon Shockwave, I have come to the conclusion that Evols are good. They remind me a little of Sabers/Samurais. They can toolbox quite nicely, and are pretty solid in every aspect. Plus I find that the have much easier access to Laggia/Dolkka then Rabbit.dek does. My only complaint thus far is lack of tuners. This deck is much more XYZ based anyways, so its not a huge complaint, but I feel they could have made one of the Evotiles into a tuner. I find it to be a decently competitive deck, however, I have yet to face DWs with it. The fact that the archetype has its own GK Spy, makes me scared of DW Lightning a little.

Either way, here is the decklist - Critique away.

    Monsters:

    3 Evolsaur Cerato
    2 Evolsaur Diplodocus
    3 Evolsaur Ulcanadon
    2 Evoltile Odochelys
    3 Evoltile Westlo
    1 Gorz
    1 Blackwing - Gale
    1 Sangan
    2 Thunder King Rai-oh
    2 Tragodia
    1 BLS
    2 Effect Veiler

    Spells:

    2 Fossil Dig
    3 Pot of Duality
    2 Forbidden Lance
    1 Monster Reborn
    1 Dark Hole
    1 Heavy Storm
    1 MST

    Traps:

    1 Solemn Warning
    1 Solemn Judgment
    2 Bottomless Trap Hole
    1 Call of the Haunted
1 Offering to the Snake Deity

Okay, So with Gates of the Underworld officially legal, I have been pondering on what to do with my side deck. The vast majority of my locals play all of the same deck on a weekly basis. Very little variety. And TBH, only a few of them are good. The other scrubs show up to essentially GIVE us a bigger prize pool.

5 Agents, 2 Big Gay Dragons, 1 Frognarch, 1 Tengu.dek. Thats usually the just of it. Now that DW are out, and only 2 people at my locals have access to Tour Guides, I expect only 1 or 2 COMPETITIVE DW decks.  So for my local scene, I need to side accordingly. I'm considering running 2 Gemini Imps, and a dark imprisoning mirror for DW hate, and the usual Leechings and Crows for Agents. I'm having trouble finding a common ground between the two. I don't want to devote my entire side deck to these decks, because like I said, the other players that are piloting dragons/frogs/tengu.dek, do it extremely well. I need to find something that I can use to combat all of these decks, OTHER then DD Crow ( I plan on siding 2, MAYBE 3 this format). I'm open to any suggestions anybody has. Keep in mind that I run Agents as well.

Week Update- Dark World Structure Deck, Light Pulsar Dragon

So small update today, cause I have been out of the YGO loop for the past week or so, as I was unable to attend my locals on Monday (Thanksgiving out of town - at least the food was good.), but I will however be going this Monday, which is the Last one I'll be able to attend for 2 weeks, as I leave for Florida in 7 Days from now.

Any-who, the spoiler list for the Dark World structure deck was revealed this past week, and I gotta say, WOW. I did not expect them to keep Trag in there. I'm happy they did however, as it gives our team access to a wide variety to options on decks to run, considering we have 1(ONE) Tragodia on the team. And we only got that recently. My locals is full of scrubs, and only 4 other people there are deep in the competitive scene. Making certain cards hard as shit to get - unless we pack them ourselves.

Also related to the DW structure deck - what was Konami thinking? I thought the Problem-Solving-Word-Text was supposed to solve problems? I ACTUALLY needed to re-read most of the Dark World cards to fully understand them. Seems like it causes more problems then anything, if a well-rounded player such as myself has trouble understanding. I feel bad for the rich-scrubs-who-don't-actually-know-how-to-play-but-think-that-they-do. I understand them now myself, however, NO card should take that much effort to fully understand.

ALSO(!1!111!!), Latinum was revealed this week, and gotta say, hes bad. Which is good.
Well, hes not terribad, but he isnt great. Lvl 6 with a Goldd/Silvva SS ability. Could be useful in Fabled Variants that run Fabled Raven.

The last thing the TCG needs is another broken ass Dark World.

And  despite what some people I have talked to, including my teammates, I refuse to change my mind about Dark Smog. It is a DW-Staple. It gives you a discard outlet when you dont have one, and keeps the flow of the deck running.

Also in this weeks news, Light Pulsar Dragon was announced as one of the Ultras in Dragonic Legion in the OCG. I wouldn't say that this card is EXTREMELY overpowered, but it gives Big Gay Dragons (Hopeless Dragon - locals insider.), a new toy to play with.

You can banish 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your hand. You can send 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your hand to your Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your Graveyard. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Dragon-Type monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.

This card alone is really good. It can SS REDMD when it leaves the field (Can't miss timing either), which in turn, can SS this guy right back. Another loop I see with this guy is with LADD. Always have field presence because they can SS each other when they leave the field. Seems pretty busted, but definitely not as much so as Grapha. I would put this guy on par with Hyperion. Keep in mind, this guys IS NOT the cover card/boss monster for the deck.. so.. here's hoping for something on par with this.

EDIT:: POJO broke this thing. New OTK formula: Cannon Soldier, REDMD in grave, and this.

Collecter's Tins Wave 2; WTF Konami

                                                                                   Gimme dat Pachy.

So they announced the final 2 tin cards, XX-Saber Darksoul, which Jeff Jones told us about well in advance, so kudos to that, and Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, which is making Jeff eat his words (he thought it was Glow-up Bulb). Either way, we get Pachy, which DESPERATELY needed a reprint. Much-more so then Bulb. Overall, I think the wave 2 tins are just as good as the wave 1 tins, which were ridiculously awesome. I think after all the announcements, I myself will get just 2 GEPD tins. There isn't really anything I really need in the Number 10 tin, although Ehren is a nice promo. I will most likely rely on my team for those particular tins.

    Once per turn: You can target 1 monster in your opponent's Graveyard;
discard 1 Fiend-Type monster and banish that target. Effect Unconfirmed.

    Diva Plants

As promised, our first actual post, my Diva-Plant build I have going on at the moment. I have been switching back and forth between this and agents.

The deck certainly hurts by having no tour guides (lolbudgetplayers), however, I see diva as just as much of a toolbox.

    YGOFactor has arrived.

    Hi, my name is Wry9.
Essentially, our team of 4 decided that we have grown enough as a group, and as competitive YGO players, that we're going to start making YouTube videos, and a blog to share our thoughts on whats going on in the YGO world. While I will (most likely) be the person heading this blog, you may see appearances by the other 3.

Some of the things you will find on my blog are : Card previews, Locals reports, and any YouTube videos we decide to put up.

I have been following many of the well known blogs on here for quite some time, like
